American Idol Junkie

Ok, you all know that I love reality shows. There's just so something fascinating about watching people grow, change or improve in some way. That's why I love shows like Biggest Loser and Beauty and the Geek. Normally I'm not that into American Idol but I am totally into it this season because I have a HUGE crush on a contestant. I have never been so enamored with someone on TV (besides the Pie Maker on Pushing Daisies, that is :) ) So, who is my reality show crush, it's no other than the cutest 17 year old ever, David Archuleta. You have to see him perform the best composition of John Lennon's Imagine. You'll love him too.

Juno - one of my favorite movies

Kerri and I went to see Juno last month. I know, it's had a cult following from the very beginning and a ton of hype. It's easy to get on the 'cool' bandwagon by liking a movie that is so well received by the right people (meaning the non-mainstream.) Here are some reason I loved it.
1) Ellen Page is amazing as Juno. I love her.
2) Favorite line. Juno suggesting adoption options to the soon to be parents of her unborn baby, "You should have gone to China. I hear they give babies away like free Ipods. They pretty much put them in tshirt guns and shoot them out at sporting events." Totally irreverent and sarcastic in a fun way.
3) SooChun- sweet Korean high school student who pickets the abortion clinic. You know that if it's Korean, I'll love it. She is so sincere and non-judgmental. If you're gonna picket a clinic (which I don't recommend) this is how you should do it. Juno walks up, and SooChun just talks to her and interacts with her. She does tell the truth by telling Juno that her baby has fingernails, and then tells Juno that God appreciates her blessing when Juno leaves without having an abortion.
4) It's life affirming, but in a responsible way. Jason Bateman ends up being a jerk who can't grow up and take responsibilities for his life. Usually in movies, these types of people are revered as true to themselves and nonconformists. Really, they are just not conforming to good character. The real non conformists are the cheerleader who's best friend is not the popular kid but the odd ball Juno, the father who actually stand by his pregnant child, the woman who was born to be a mother and does whatever she can to make her dreams come true, and Juno who has the maturity to give birth to a baby that can be a blessing to someone else rather than take the easy road of getting rid of it.
5) It's just funny. Some don't like this type of humor, but it's totally up my alley. It's a slower talking version of Gilmore Girls. You know I love that.
